Self-taught Kirkcaldy artist Duncan Gilfillan trained as a mine surveyor and was down the pits until 1963. He started painting around 1990 and specialises in the more unusual aspects of urban landscapes, with local architecture, scrapyards and derelict buildings and collieries among his favourite topics. Duncan Gilfillan has been a member of Kirkcaldy Art Club for over 20 years and initially took up painting as a hobby to escape from the stresses of work. He has won awards from Shell Expro in the Fife Art Exhibition and has also appeared on Channel 4's Watercolour Challenge.
"My work is done in watercolour, but is not in a delicate style, I prefer a more robust style with stronger colours."

NHS Fife recognises the importance that art plays in creating an environment conducive to good health and well being. Our collection of artwork is intended to be enjoyed by patients, their visitors and staff alike.
