Sam Taylor-Wood (b. 1967) trained as a sculptor and went on to become a photographer and filmmaker. She was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1998 and her photographic work has been exhibited extensively to great acclaim. Taylor-Wood has more recently focused on her work as a film director. Her debut feature film Nowhere Boy was released in 2009 and her most successful feature film to date was Fifty Shades of Grey (2015). This series of photographs profiles people diagnosed with cancer. Taylor-Wood herself has beaten cancer twice and the subject matter clearly is a very personal one to her. The split between being and appearance in situations where the line between interior and external sense of self is in conflict has always been in the centre of her creative work.

NHS Fife recognises the importance that art plays in creating an environment conducive to good health and well being. Our collection of artwork is intended to be enjoyed by patients, their visitors and staff alike.
