Sonas MacLean likes his work to provide a true memory of a place. Rather than using strict perspectives and photographic realism, he likes his scenes to evoke a memory. Depicting recognisable landscapes, he seeks to do something more than simply recreate what you would expect to see when taking a photograph. Sonas MacLean was born and brought up on the coast of Caithness where he learned an appreciation of the sea and a love of coastal scenes and small harbours. He studied drawing and painting at Edinburgh School of Art and is now based in Fife. Sonas MacLean combines colour, composition and tones to distil the harmonies and moods he sees in the landscapes around him.

NHS Fife recognises the importance that art plays in creating an environment conducive to good health and well being. Our collection of artwork is intended to be enjoyed by patients, their visitors and staff alike.
